Malaysia Airlines First Class Lounge Report Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia Airlines First & Platinum Lounges Kuala Lumpur

An 11 hour layover after a 12 hour flight (albeit an MH First Class flight) sounded like a nightmare. However, due to a limited number of stopovers allowed with the Oneworld Explorer RTW fare I had no choice. I originally planned on staying in KL for two nights on my way to Sydney. No matter how much I willed the fare rules to change though, they wouldn’t budge and I was stuck with my own little version of that Tom Hanks’ movie:  ‘The Terminal’.

I had heard good things about Malaysia Airlines’ KLIA lounge though and after some research revealed they also had private slumber rooms, I started to relax a little. And while the lounge sounded fantastic on paper; I am happy to report it’s all true!

My flight from Paris arrived early and it was still pitch dark outside. The MH lounges: Business, First and Platinum are located in the Satellite Golden Lounge Wing, Mezzanine Floor, Satellite Building of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

As the eight slumber rooms are on a first-come-first-serve basis I was relieved to find the lounge totally empty…yes!

The Platinum and First Class Lounges are located to the right of the reception desk. As you proceed through, an impressive and very long buffet is made up at your left with the main lounge seating area to your right.

The Platinum Lounge used to be available to Malaysia Airlines platinum level Enrich mileage card holders only, however first class passengers can now also enjoy the separate lounge as well. Frankly, there is not much difference between the First Class lounge area and the Platinum Lounge and I can see why they chose to make both spaces available.

The lounge comes equipped with his and hers shower facilities along with shampoo, conditioner, tooth-brush kit and fresh towels. I took a shower and used my in-flight pajamas from my flight and headed straight for my slumber room. The room is small with a single bed, but that’s really all you need. You can register a wake-up service with the front reception desk as well. My one complaint with the slumber rooms was the loud PA system constantly announcing in Malay and English the various flight departures; the ear plugs from my amenity kit the night before came in handy.

After about fives hours or so, I woke up and headed for the buffet. Wow! Malaysia Airlines certainly do not skimp on their food selection and everything tasted as good as it looked. The lounge has a warm, homelike feeling and I was perfectly content there. The MH KLIA First Class lounge doesn’t have the pizazz of Cathay’s ‘The Wing’ at Hong Kong, however for sleeping and relaxing I think most will find it even more comfortable.
